Best Movie Moments of 2019

It’s #MovieNight! As 2019 comes to a rapid close, it’s high time for my yearly round-up of this year’s blog theme, the Year of Movie Moments! In my life I’ve had some real-life movie moments. Like that time I was walking to the Metro in the rain on my way to work and a bus drove by, splashing in a series of puddles and soaking me from head to toe. Didn’t that happen to Bridget Jones? But this year I wanted to make some movie moments. Here’s my list of the best movie moments from this year’s travels!

Best Romantic Comedy

Epic, over-the-top Singapore!

I’ll let you in on a secret about myself: I often end up waiting to watch new movies until they come out on airline seat back entertainment! I’m usually satisfied with that, but one movie I wish I’d seen on the big screen is Crazy Rich Asians! Steve and I both watched it on our way to Guam last December, and it quickly became a favorite for us both! The film features Singapore, one of our favorite long-haul destinations, and a place most Americans need to put on their travel list! It’s definitely the best romantic comedy I’ve seen in a long time, and I can’t wait for the next two films in the trilogy!

Best Drama

Highclere Castle

Is there anything more dramatic than Downton Abbey? Of course not! When I decided to do the Year of Movie Moments theme, visiting Highclere Castle went to the tippy-top of my “must go” list! The new movie that came out in September topped the box office and sparked hopes for future feature films, which the people at Highclere Castle will be super happy about! Visiting the estate was definitely an experience worth having, and it got me so excited for the movie!

Best Classic Film

The Famous Rick’s Cafe!

Is there a more famous film than Casablanca? I don’t think so! Getting to eat at Rick’s Cafe was a dream come true and a highlight of our trip to Morocco! The food was fantastic, the decor was spot-on, and the people working there really seemed to be excited to help guests’ movie moment dreams come true! We went for lunch, but if you go for supper you’ll hear the piano player!

Play it again, Sam!

Best Chick Flick

Posting my Letter to Juliet!

What’s the best chick flick experience in the world? Writing a letter to Juliet! I never did get a response back from mine, but it was a fun thing to do! We also got to stay in a bed and breakfast inside Juliet’s Courtyard, and the best part was being there on Valentine’s Day! It was one of the most romantic trips we’ve ever taken.

Best Musical

Recognize this shot?!

The Sound of Music was my inspiration for the whole Year of Movie Moments blog theme! We stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, last year, and that started me thinking about some of my favorite movies and some of the moments on my travels that made me feel like I was in a movie. Going to Salzburg was like a dream come true. We got to see both the filming locations and some of the actual locations where the real-life events took place! Salzburg quickly became one of my favorite cities in Europe, and we can’t wait to go back!

Best Adventure

Jurassic Falls, as seen from a scenic flight!

The best adventures are Hawaiian adventures! Hawaii is the backdrop for countless films (and TV shows), and for good reason: the Islands’ beauty is unparalleled, and sometimes more beautiful than you can imagine. Movies like Jurassic Park, Jumanji, and Indiana Jones were all filmed here, but even just being there in person is an adventure! From the hikes to the ocean to the dramatic coastlines, there is something in Hawaii that will make you excited for life!

Best Biopic

You can hang out with Mr. Rogers in his hometown of Latrobe, PA!

Few people in history have meant as much as Mr. Rogers has to so many people. Now Tom Hanks is playing Mr. Rogers in a movie, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! Steve is originally from Pittsburgh, so when we go back to visit family, we sometimes stop by to see Mr. Rogers, too!
