Top 10 Things to Do in London

Updated August 16, 2020.

London is one of the most iconic cities in the world. People dream of visiting London for lots of reasons, but mostly, people get there and want to see the sights! Whether you have a whole week to explore or only a couple of days, you can definitely experience my top 10 picks on your trip to London!

10. Spend Some Time with Big Ben

I’ve been fascinated with Big Ben since I can remember. I don’t know why; I guess I just like the look of it! You can get fantastic views of this iconic piece of architecture from either side of the River Thames.

So excited to see Big Ben in person!

9. Take a Spin on the London Eye

And speaking of views of Big Ben, you can get that view and more from just one whirl around the London Eye! Perfectly situated on the south bank of the River Thames, you can see iconic monuments, memorials, and landmarks for miles around! The ride is slow so you can soak it all in.

8. Check out the Beefeaters

These guys are truly impressive! We missed the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, but we did spot them at the Tower of London. They are mighty impressive with their uniform and stony glare. And it’s true: you can’t make them flinch!

It’s true, you can’t rattle them!

7. Eat at a Pub

The best part of any trip to a new place is eating the food! English pubs are an absolute must in London and all over the UK. Get your pie, fish n chips, baked beans for breakfast, and more at any of the local pubs in London. You won’t be disappointed!

6. Explore the Tower of London

This is one of my favorite things we’ve done in our travels! Hearing about the famous people who’ve been imprisoned here (some who never again saw the light of day!), seeing the crown jewels, and seeing where royals of the past are buried were all truly fascinating, and a little creepy, too!

Do not miss the Tower of London!

Did you know London is home to the longest-running play in the world? It’s true! It’s called The Mousetrap, and it’s a murder mystery by famed Englishwoman Agatha Christie. But there are countless other shows to choose from! Definitely make time for a play or musical while you’re in London!

One of the most impressive museums in the world is the British Museum, and it is absolutely FREE! Whatever history interests you, from anywhere in the world, you will find it here. My favorite was the Egyptian exhibit and the Rosetta Stone.

2. The Victoria and Albert Museum

The British Museum impressed me with all its world history, but the Victoria and Albert Museum impressed me with its British artifacts! I could have spent all day exploring over 1000 years of history from London and beyond.

I could have spent all day in the V&A Museum!

1. Afternoon Tea

If you’re looking for an iconic experience with a lot of class, afternoon tea is the thing for you! We had tea at the Savoy Hotel before our date at the theatre, and it was one of the most special dates we’ve ever taken! Wear something fun, don’t skip the clotted cream, and when offered extra scones, take them!

Tea time!
