It’s Travel Tip Tuesday! If you’ve been following along on Facebook and Instagram, you know my sweet husband recently whisked me away for a romantic long weekend in Venice, Italy! This was my first time to Italy, and I’ve always thought of it as an unattainable, romantic, dreamy destination. But I wasn’t dreaming! Here are my top 10 romantic experiences in Venice–start planning your trip for Valentine’s Day now!
10. Get Lost Together
Getting lost can be stressful, but literally everyone I talked to about Venice and every blog post I read in preparation for our trip said to get lost and enjoy it! When you think of it as a “thing to do” and you love the one you’re lost with, it quickly becomes exciting and romantic.

9. Enjoy Gelatti Together
We visited Venice in November, so it was chilly. But that did not stop us from enjoying real Italian gelato! Nothing is sweeter than enjoying a delicious treat with your sweetie to finish your romantic evening!

8. Shop on the Rialto Bridge
I am not a shopper, but this was a pretty great experience! The Rialto Bridge is one of the most famous (and romantic!) in the world, and there are loads of shops all across it. Imagine strolling along the bridge, holdings hands with your significant other, and the two of you stop to buy a bit of Murano glass or trinket to remind you of your trip together. So sweet.

7. Get a Bird’s-eye View
One of our favorite things to do on our travels is to take in an incredible view together. The first thing we did upon arrival was to go up in the Campanile Tower to take in the sweeping and iconic views of historic Venice. This is the stuff of dreams:

6. Listen to the Music
There are exceptionally talented ensembles playing daily at the restaurants around San Marco and buskers serenading in the streets, so be sure to listen for them. Stop to dance in the square, or maybe just sit and imagine you’re in a romantic movie. Except in this instance it will be the soundtrack of your life!

5. Lock Up Your Love
There are countless bridges in Venice, and on and around many of them you will find “love locks.” Lovers come with their locks from all over the world, some with their names engraved on them and some brightly colored; some with a special date and some plain. But the happy couples all do the same thing: lock their love on the bridge and throw away the key.

4. Have Coffee at Cafe Florian
Other blogs will tell you this is touristy and advise you to skip it. I say don’t miss it! This was a super fun and elegant thing to do for breakfast and coffee one morning. The decor is over-the-top, classic cafe style. The waiter brings your food and coffee out on a silver platter, and for a devoted historian and lover of coffee, it was very exciting to enjoy a cappuccino here with my Love! Extravagant, yes, but entirely worthwhile!

3. Hold Each Other in a Tunnel of Love
Are you or your honey a little on the shy side? Make sure you take a moment to find yourself in a sotoportego, or a “tunnel of love.” That’s just a little passageway hidden from crowds and sunlight. It’s a place for just the two of you and centuries-old stone as a witness.

2. Kiss on the Bridges
Share a kiss on as many bridges as you can! My sweet husband learned early that I giggle and feel truly cherished when we stop in the middle of a bridge, he pulls me in close, and he kisses me! I think everyone around knew we were lovers. How did they guess?

1. Take a Gondola Ride
There is nothing more romantic or Venetian than gliding through the city on a Venetian gondola! Sometimes the gondolier will sing to you, and once I heard an accordion playing as a gondola passed by! Or you can just float along, snuggling together while you see Old Venice the way it was meant to be seen.
