Staying at Temple des Arts

You could imagine my delight when I found out there was a movie-themed hotel in Morocco! And you could imagine my excitement again when it worked out for us to stay there one night on our way to the Sahara! Here’s the whole experience, complete with photos and movie links!

The Location

Hotel Temple des Arts is located in Ouarzazate, which is known as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Many well-known movies have been made here, and you can even tour the nearby film studios! Ouarzazate is about 125 miles or four hours, southeast of Marrakech, and it’s a common way-point for travelers on their way to a Sahara Desert excursion.

The Welcome

After a horrendous experience at La Mamounia in Marrakech, we braced ourselves for more unkindness from all our accommodations for the rest of the trip. But Temple des Arts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. As soon as we stepped inside, we felt like they were glad to have us there! One of the gentlemen who greeted us brought us mint tea and cookies while we lounged on the couch and waited for the front desk gentleman to check us in.

Our Room

We booked a Deluxe Double Room on Booking.com, and that landed us in the Alexander the Great Room! The room was large, the bed was comfortable, we had loads of closet space, and there was fruit and bottled water in the room to make us feel extra welcome.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was spacious by any standard, in any hotel, anywhere in the world! I appreciated having two sinks, and the bathtub-shower combo was large and beautiful. My only critique is that the shower head was hand-held, without a place to hang it up to have use of both hands at once. This made for a longer, more complicated shower for me. A rainfall shower head would have been very luxurious in this particular style of shower.

Amenities

This property is one of the most peaceful places we experienced in all of Morocco. It is entirely enclosed, so you have the ultimate privacy. Their pool is absolutely beautiful, and the flowers they have growing all around add to the colorful beauty in the desert.

The Beautiful Pool Area

As an example of their kindness at this hotel, I was working out the one morning we had there, and one of the staff noticed I was laying on the ground to do some of my exercises. So he went and got one of the lounge chair pads for me to lay on instead. That was so kind! Who needs a gym when the outdoor space is so beautiful? My husband worked out there, too:

Everything I needed for an excellent workout: a mat, open lawn space, chairs, and stairs!

One thing I wish I’d had more time for was a massage and hammam at their spa. Look how beautiful! And their prices are very reasonable as well.

Breakfast

The traditional Moroccan breakfast at the hotel was wonderful. There was so much food we couldn’t eat it all, and it kept us full for hours afterward!

Breakfast Table: orange juice, muffins, yogurt, jams, cheese
Coffee
Bread and Pastries
Moroccan Crepes
Omelette; this is actually from a different breakfast, but I accidentally ate my Temple des Arts eggs before I took a picture! Whoops!

The Movies

All the rooms at Temple des Arts have a movie theme from a movie that was filmed there in Ouarzazate through the years! Now that we’ve stayed in the Alexander the Great room, I’m compelled to watch the movie! The gentlemen at the hotel were kind enough to let me into each available room to take some photos for my blog. A couple of them were occupied, so you’ll have to go to the hotel to see them for yourself!
