Where to Eat in Foggy Bottom

Updated June 27, 2020.

You might find yourself in Foggy Bottom without even realizing it. Maybe you drifted in from downtown, perhaps you meandered up from the National Mall. Maybe you walked down from Georgetown on the Rock Creek Park walking trail. Maybe you’re looking for a quick bite before a Kennedy Center show! No matter how you find yourself here, you’ll definitely want to eat!

Flower Child

This adorable restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue will make you feel good as soon as you step inside. They have amazing food, friendly service, and yummy teas and lemonades in all sorts of flavor combinations! I wish I’d been hungrier when I stepped in the other day, but lucky for me their small plates are both tasty and photogenic!

Tomato Toast with goat cheese and special pesto!

Greenberry’s Coffee Co.

Need a caffeine fix? Maybe a snack or a lite meal? Head to Greenberry’s! It’s just a couple of blocks from the State Department, so swing by while you’re in the area! They have super fun flavors to add into any coffee, and they change things up with the season!

Coconut Macaroon Latte? Yes, please!

Tonic at Quigley’s Pharmacy

This place has great food, but the thing I love about it most is the fact that it’s in an old pharmacy! Their menu includes everything from mac and cheese to burgers, from seafood to salad, and from pizza to sandwiches. You’ll find it right in the middle of the George Washington University campus.

How cute is that?

Captain Cookie and the Milkman

Got a sweet tooth? Captain Cookie and the Milkman can help! Their cookie and ice cream sandwiches are no joke, but you can also get just ice cream, just cookies, and a milkshake, too! This D.C.-based business has multiple locations, a cookie mobile, and delivers, but if you find yourself in Foggy Bottom, you’ll find their shop on Pennsylvania Avenue (this particular store doubles as a test kitchen, so you could try a new creation!). Want another reason to love this place? A portion of their proceeds is always donated to No Kid Hungry.

Sweet Green

You know a college town with a hipster vibe will have a salad place! Sweet Green is another D.C.-based restaurant chain with multiple locations around the city. Foggy Bottom’s location is just steps away from GWU, the GW Hospital, and the Foggy Bottom Metro! Their salads are always fresh, seasonally-inspired, and fully customizable! Perfect for a warm spring or summer lunch. Get yours to go and have a little picnic at nearby Washington Circle!

Better eat your greens! (I promise there’s chicken in there, too.)

Burger Tap and Shake

This was one of the best burgers I ever ate! It’s pretty much just burgers, sides, beverages, and milkshakes (and fresh-baked cookies), but they do have vegetarian, seafood, and poultry options as well–all served in burger form! It’s a perfect place for lunch or a casual supper on the go!
