Tea at the Trump Hotel, Washington, D.C.

Updated June 24, 2020.

It’s a very special What I Ate Wednesday! When my husband told me he had a business trip coming up and I knew that I would not be able to join him, I started planning a business trip of my own–blog business! I wanted to treat myself to something special, and there is nothing more special than afternoon tea in a gorgeous setting, so when I realized my hotel offered afternoon tea, I booked a spot. It’s an experience I hope to repeat, but for now, here’s your sneak peek.

The Table Setting

Everything about the Trump International Hotel in D.C. is absolutely refined. From the moment you step in, the crystal chandeliers and gold accents give the impression that you’re in for an elegant experience. Once you check in with the hostess, you’ll be whisked away to your table–comfortable chairs and gold-accented service included.

The Table Setting

The Tea

All of the teas on the menu are of top quality, and you can choose from a variety of herbal, chai, green, white, oolong, black, and pu-erh tea, which I’d never even heard of before! I chose the organic white ginseng tea, and it was a delight!

Time for Tea

I think it’s also important to note that a glass of sparkling wine is included in the price of your afternoon tea. I do not drink, however, so I didn’t get a photo of that!

The Savories and Sweets

Every morsel on this tier was wonderful! The star of the show was the egg salad on the right of the bottom tier, and the best sweet was the little yellow cake on the top left! I don’t even remember what all of them were, but I’ll do my best to describe them in the photo caption below.

Sweets: Chocolate morsel with gold leaf, yellow petit four,
iced Madeline, scone, shortbread cookie
Savories: Cucumber sandwich, seafood biscuit, tuna salad sandwich, egg salad sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, salmon sandwich

Booking Your Spot of Tea

The Trump International D.C. offers afternoon tea Thursday-Sunday from 1:00-4:00pm, and they take reservations until 24 hours in advance. You can book on Open Table or right from the Trump Hotel’s website!

  1. I think I went into that lobby when I visited Washington DC in May of 2017. What an incredible lobby.

    1. Probably so! We can go again next time you come up!
