Updated July 21, 2020.
There is one bright side when my husband is away on a business trip: I get to stay in an adorable bed and breakfast! I don’t think I could have chosen a better one for my recent solo trip to Charleston than the 27 State Street B&B. This is not a sponsored post; I was simply treated with such kindness and had such a positive experience, I want everyone to know about it!
The Location
You will be hard-pressed to find a more centrally located accommodation in Charleston! I was literally just steps away from some of the top Charleston attractions, and I was in the very heart of the historic district. I could walk to Battery Park and White Point Gardens, the Old Slave Mart Museum, Rainbow Row, Charleston City Market, Waterfront Park, the Gateway Walk, restaurants, and so much more!

The Welcome
The welcome started before I ever arrived. In fact, it started just moments after I booked! Donna, the property manager, gave me a call less than an hour after I booked just to say hello and make sure I felt welcomed in anticipation of my trip. She asked for my flight arrival time to make sure I’d be able to get into the property when I arrived, and she answered all my questions about check-in procedures and what’s nearby. I also e-mailed her about a week before my stay to ask a couple more questions, and she replied promptly!

The Wurdeman Study
Upon booking, I chose the Wurdeman Study. Its canopied bed and writing nook won my heart as soon as I saw them in pictures! I love staying in historic properties with well-kept hardwood floors, crown moulding, and antique furniture, and this room had everything.

The Bathroom
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t expect spacious or luxurious bathroom eperiences in historic properties, which is why I was so pleasantly surprised with this one! I love that there is so much natural light (from a very high window—no peeping toms around), and it was absolutely immaculate. The towels were large and soft, not small and scratchy as many properties tend to have. And I enjoyed the good facial tissues and toilet paper, not the thin sandpapery stuff I often find in even the most high-end accommodations! I truly felt like I was staying in a luxurious suite.

The Amenities
You know I love to pack efficiently, and sometimes that means leaving my preferred toiletries at home to save that oh-so-precious liquid allowance space, plus weight in my luggage. I asked in advance what toiletries are provided, knowing that it can be so hit-or-miss at bed and breakfasts across the board! Donna wrote back and told me exactly what toiletries are provided and what brand—Gilbert and Soames—so I could be my most prepared.

The Breakfast
Y’all, I had the biggest quiche of my life here, and I’m a little bit embarrassed about the fact that I ate it all—and I ate it all quickly! Donna gets her baked goods from a local, off-the-beaten-path spot called Brown’s Court Bakery, and not only was every bite delicious, it was filling for me even hours afterward. Not only that, each guest gets their choice of either orange or grapefruit juice, and French press coffee or Twinings tea. They also use the same plates my mom has, so it was a little bit like being back home!

Too chilly for breakfast on the veranda? Donna will deliver breakfast to your room when you’re ready!
