Time to fly, folks! Even after years of flying, both Steve and I still get excited about our flights. And now that Steve has his Million Miler status with United, we can do more exploring on the rest of the Star Alliance! We recently scored a great deal using reward miles for Lufthansa Business Class from D.C. to Verona on a 747. Why is a 747’s Business Class so cool? Because it has an upper deck! So we chose seats up there and had tons of fun on our first leg from D.C. to Frankfurt. Here’s what it was like!
The Seats
The Business seats on this aircraft were very comfortable, lay all the way back to make a bed, and the best part: they come with storage! I do not like the fact that I have to put all my carry-on luggage up in the overhead bin on many Business Class aircraft. I like having access to my laptop, book, phone, chargers, snacks, etc., even when the seatbelt sign is on. So I really appreciate that Lufthansa provides plenty of storage at the seats!

The Service
We were greeted with smiles and helped to our seats, then offered a welcome beverage! The service in flight was attentive but not hovering, and because the upper deck is so much smaller than the lower deck, I felt we had more personal service, which is a nice touch!

The Amenities Kit
One of my favorite things about flying in Business Class is the amenities kit! It’s like a little gift waiting for me in the seat. The bags are reusable, and it’s nice to have a toothbrush right there for me without having to dig through all my stuff to find mine! We did not get slippers or pajamas on this flight because it was a relatively short one (less than 7 hours), but we didn’t mind. I love that I got a new Lufthansa pencil bag out of the deal!

The Entertainment
They had some really good English entertainment options! There were movies, TV shows, music, audio books, games, and more. I’ve flown several non-U.S. airlines over the years, and there have always been plenty of English options. Many programs are also available in a variety of other languages as well! The TV is a touch screen, so I could use the remote control or simply select from the screen itself!

The Food
Lufthansa’s Business Class food has not quite stayed on-par with other airlines as their meal services have improved over the last few years, but it wasn’t bad. And it’s better than what they serve in Economy!
For the full meal service, take a look at What to Eat on Lufthansa IAD-FRA! But just to whet your appetite, here’s a taste of what we ate:
