Hotel Contessa and Spa San Antonio: Everything You Need to Know

Looking for a hotel in San Antonio that has a prime location, spa, direct Riverwalk access, and suite rooms only? We found it for you. Hotel Contessa and Spa has all that and more to offer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and I have to say that not only would we stay there again, we’d also recommend it to you. Read on to find out why.

The Hotel

As you might imagine with a name like Contessa, this is an Italian-inspired property. As such, it’s well-designed with features that harken to an Italian villa. As an added bonus to us, it had been very recently renovated prior to our stay. Its location right on the Riverwalk, close to everything and within walking distance to all the sites on our “must-do” list, make it the perfect hotel for our needs.

The Room

As mentioned in the intro, every room is a suite! This is fantastic because you have space to spread out and not feel cramped. The bedroom was farthest away from the door, so there was minimal noise from the hallway to disturb us. The bed was remarkably comfortable, and having a totally separate sitting area was very nice. The bedroom and sitting area were separated by the bathroom and coffee bar, complete with extra counter space and a refrigerator.

The Bathroom

Something I certainly appreciate in a hotel is a spacious bathroom. The toiletries were a bit lackluster, but the layout, water pressure, and counter space made up for it. I also loved the wood doors, which gave it a Tuscan look and feel, along with the brown countertop and dark, metal faucet. It really could have been the bathroom in a large, Italian villa.

The Gym & Pool

This hotel has a great top-floor gym space, complete with free weights, weight machines, and cardio equipment, plus windows for amazing workout views. The only critique I have is that there was not a lot of space for free movement, especially if there are multiple people in the space. One remedy I found for that, however, was to take a mat out to the pool area! I got a good active recovery workout there one morning.

Speaking of the pool, it’s beautiful. I do love a good rooftop pool! With plenty of sun or shaded seating options, this outdoor pool space is one of the best I’ve seen at a hotel.

The Spa

This is one of the best spas I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time. I love that they have a relaxation room, complete with comfy seating, dim lights, and relaxing music. My masseuse gave me one of the best massages of my life, which was perfect because I’ve recently started running again. I left feeling relaxed, realigned, and stretched.

I absolutely adore a true relaxation room at a spa!

The Ambler Restaurant

We ended up grabbing take-out from the bar menu here one evening, which was delicious. My husband and I split the Ambler Burger and a salad in our room because we were beat after a day of walking all over the place, but if we’d had another night, we would have made an effort to eat in the restaurant. The full menu sounded amazing, and the ambience was very Texas-chic.

10/10 would return to this restaurant for a full meal
