5 Ways to Wear Leggings

Leggings for the WIN! I’m a major fan of this fashion staple. No matter the season, no matter the reason, there’s always a leggings look that will work for the occasion. This “How to Wear” series has been so much fun to come up with, and honestly, I don’t even like clothes all that much! Comfort and packing light always take precedent over the latest trends or fashion statements when I travel, however, and now I get to let you in on all my light packing secrets. My favorite strategy is packing a few items that go together to create different looks, and leggings definitely fit the bill!

Full-length Pants

I don’t care what side of the “are leggings pants” argument you happen to be on. Leggings are pants with the right top! You can wear leggings as full-length pants with a button-down, tunic, sweater, or anything else you’re comfortable wearing with leggings. I’m a fan.

7/8 Length

The 7/8th length pant has probably been around longer than I know, but once I discovered it maybe two years ago, I did a little happy dance! Just roll those leggings up about 2-3 times, and you’ve got yourself a cute new pair of pants without going shopping! It’s perfect for those in-between weather situations, or with booties in the fall!

Capris are my “pants BFF.” I love them! They’re perfect for summery days, and all you have to do is pull full-length leggings about half way up your calf, then fold over the extra fabric. BOOM! You’ve got capri pants in your suitcase.

Under a Dress

Dress a little short, legs a little chilly? Put on those leggings! I love to pair a dress with complementing leggings for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that I don’t have to cross my legs when I sit down. They’re perfect on a flight, in a chilly destination, or on a brisk morning exploring a new place!

Dress a little on the short side? Leggings are the answer!

Workout Pants

Yep, I went there. The same leggings I wear for pants are the exact same ones I wear to workout sometimes, especially on travel! If I’ve worn them two (or three) times on a trip already, I’ll wear them at the gym or on a run for one more good wear, and then wash them out in the shower. BOOM! Clean pants to wear again. This is what I mean when I talk about multi-use or multi-functional pieces: leggings that can go from the plane to the museum to the gym and back again.

The leggings can do some heavy lifting!
