Magnolia Silos Baking Company

Updated June 25, 2020.

This is a very special What I Ate Wednesday! This week I’m whisking you off to what may  currently be the country’s most famous bakery: The Silos Baking Co. in Waco, Texas! Here’s the scoop on the goodies, the decor, and the experience!

The Bakery

If you saw the 2017 Valentine’s Day episode of Fixer Upper, you know the love and care Chip and Joanna put into their beautiful bakery. And it is truly just that adorable in real life! It has the original charm on the outside with those classic Chip and Jo features on the inside. I love that they do so much to preserve the history and integrity of their projects. Those rusty Silos really make the flower shop-turned bakery pop!

The Line

Just like with any sought-after attraction (bakery, ride, check-out, etc.), there will be a line. The line will be longer sometimes than others, and you get to choose when you stand in it! We went around 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon on two occasions and only stood in line about 20-30 minutes or so each time, but it really wasn’t a bother at all. We chatted with the people in line around us, there was music playing, people are happy to be there, a Magnolia employee gave us a menu card to fill out while we waited, and the line really did move fairly quickly!

Ordering is easy!

Inside the Store

There will be someone to happily greet you at the door and ask how many are in your party. I assume they do this because of fire codes or some similar concern. It’s a small store! But once you step inside, you are greeted with the most wonderful smell of cupcakes and cookies! Take it all in while you wait in the last portion of the line–the floors, the ceiling, the natural wood, the subway tile, even the bathroom!

The Goodies

Oh, you want me to get to the point? Here it is! The bakery is awesome, but the baked goods are even better! They change their cupcake offerings occasionally, but many are around all the time. They have more than just cupcakes, too. Need something savory? Try the Prize Pig! Want a cookie? Take your pick! They also have cinnamon rolls, blueberry crumble muffins, and more!

Treating Ourselves

After kind of a long and difficult journey to get to Waco from Austin, I definitely needed that cupcake! And since this trip was for my Mama’s birthday, she definitely needed one, too!

We picked Silobration and Lemon Lavender–WOW!

And since our friend Debbie didn’t join us until the next day, you know we had to get some the next day, too!

And you never know who you’ll run into! Mom and Debbie were in line right behind some friends from college at Harding University and didn’t even realize it until we all got our cupcakes!

In short, do not miss the bakery! Thanks so much to Chip and Jo and their whole Magnolia team for making it such a fun, easy, and delicious place to go! Have you been to the bakery? Tell me about it below!
