It’s What I Ate Wednesday in Cancún! I might shock some of you this week: I do not like Mexican food in America. I have a very strong stomach when it comes to most foods, but for some reason when I have Mexican food in the US, it makes my stomach hurt. However, that’s not the case in my experiences in Mexico! Crazy, right? Come along with me for an authentic and colorful Mexican food extravaganza!
Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla
Yum! It was cheesy, soft, warm, and by the time it hit my mouth it was covered in that fresh guacamole! It was also a nice way to say bienvenidos a Mexico (welcome to Mexico)!

Shrimp-stuffed Avocado
This traveling girl LOVES avocado! And since shrimp is high on the list as well, this made for a perfect meal on a hot day. The salsa wasn’t a bad addition either!

Tamales and Fruit for Breakfast
The Mexicans eat a hardy breakfast, or so I read, and I found that to be true! I got a sampling of chicken tamales, ham and cheese quesadillas, refried beans, eggs, fried plantains, and fruit! I could get used to fried plantains at every meal!

Fruit Juice
While the water in Cancún is safe to drink, I opted to enjoy some pretty juices as well. This is papaya:

And this is watermelon:

Taco Tuesday!
You can’t go to Mexico and not have tacos, can you? These were stuffed full of fish, pico de gallo, lettuce, and of course avocado! And I think that was cheese wiz on the top. Not sure why cheese wiz was necessary, but the rest was good! Oh, and that’s a side of yummy grilled pineapple.

Cancun: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Ice Cream
Some days I think, “Wow. I have such a cute body!” Some days I think, “Wow. When did that happen to my thighs?” Some days I think, “I can’t wait to eat my salad tonight!” And then there are days like this one where I think, “GIVE ME THAT ICE CREAM!”
My flavors of choice were chocolate cookies and cream and bon bon. I was not disappointed!

Lime Soup
There is more to it than lime, but it was most certainly limey! There was also chicken, veggies, and tortilla strips floating around in there.

Ceviche
Need a protein fix? Ceviche is just the thing! It’s a mix of shrimp, scallops, octopus, and even a couple of things I didn’t recognize! And topped off with… avocado!

Brownie Pie with Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream
It was a double ice cream day for me! I asked my waiter for his recommendation between the key lime pie or brownie pie, and without hesitation he suggested the brownie! It was a winner.

Mayan Tacos with all the Fixin’s
Wow were these tacos ever spicey! The one time I needed sour cream, and there was none! But am I glad I chose the Mayan option while exploring the Yucatan? Absolutely!

Flan
For my final sweet in Cancún, I had to try the flan! This one was particularly special because it came with a layer of chocolate cake. I’m not usually a flan fan, but again, the authentic Mexican flair made it better!
