It’s What I Ate Wednesday! Last year I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans for the first time! Here’s the shake down of what I could eat in a weekend.

Breakfast

Beignets and cafe au lait, anyone?  The most notable cafe in town is absolutely Cafe Du Monde, right across from the iconic Jackson Square. Mr. Peabody Pembroke went a little crazy, as you can see from the above before and after pictures. And since I was on travel and love coffee, I also stopped at another local coffee shop for a mocha! I also ate at the Bed and Breakfast where I stayed, but seriously, Cafe Du Monde is the classic spot. I recommend going as soon as they open at 7:00am, otherwise you’ll meet with an exceptional line!

Lunch

Gator hash on the menu? Sign me up! And a side of jambalaya? Sure! That was actually my (and Mr. Peabody Pembroke’s) first “taste” of New Orleans after we landed. Yum! Thankfully someone told me I needed to try a Muffuletta sandwich, but maybe start with 1/4 portion. It was huge! Another unique experience? An elk burger. Yum!

Supper

Well! We were certainly in for a treat at suppertime. My friend Amanda, her mom, and I were all treated to a most impressive dinner at the Commander’s Palace, a classy, noted New Orleans restaurant. Amanda’s boyfriend, Bill, took us out and told us to get whatever we wanted! I had my first taste of foie gras, turtle soup, and enjoyed the most delightful lobster risotto. Wow!

Dessert

Don’t think we stopped with the entrees! The Praline Parfait was so much bigger than I was expecting. Bill laughed out loud when they brought it out! And the bread pudding Tracey got was to die for! As you can see, we had some fun with our parfait. We’re adults, we can play with our food!

What should I try next time? I’m always open to suggestions!
