The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel: Everything You Need to Know

Hollywood is arguably one of the world’s most iconic destinations. People visit from all over the world, just to see the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre, and maybe, just maybe, catch the eye of a movie star! A whirlwind weekend trip to such an iconic place practically begs the traveler to stay in an iconic hotel, and the Hollywood Roosevelt fits the bill! Here is everything you need to know about staying here.

The Location

If you’ve read many of my hotel reviews, you know I am all about location, location, location! Sometimes it’s just worth paying the extra little bit of money to be close to all the things you want to see and do. The Hollywood Roosevelt is literally on Hollywood Boulevard, on the actual Walk of Fame! It’s just across the street from Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, mere steps from the quirky and fun Hollywood Museum, and within walking or Ubering distance to Griffith Park, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Boulevard, and more! If you’re looking for something in the heart of it all, look no further than the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

The Hotel

The hotel itself dates back to the 1920s. It’s seen “silent films” evolve into “talkies” and then into “movies.” It’s absolutely beautiful, and gives very “Golden Age California” vibes. A friend of mine got married here several years ago, and I can see why! It’s absolutely stunning, classy, and it’s truly a landmark. There are indoor and outdoor spaces to explore, and while it’s right in the middle of everything, it’s also an oasis of sorts from the chaos of Hollywood. There are several restaurants to choose from, so you could quite conceivably come and just enjoy the atmosphere without even leaving the hotel. We were tempted!

The Room

Now, I have stayed in historic hotels all over the world, and I know they have their quirks–I kind of love that about them! That said, and knowing they just underwent a major renovation, even I was a little surprised at how small our room was! Granted, we didn’t spring for the most expensive room, but it was certainly on the tiny side. Despite its actual size, however, it was actually very well laid-out, and the bathroom and closet were surprisingly large. And they did fit a king size bed in there! Our window was overlooking Hollywood Boulevard and the Chinese Theatre, so no complaints there! And even though the windows were not soundproof, it was actually not that loud at night, even on the holiday weekend we were there.

We did have to call down for a coffee maker, as they do no come standard in the rooms (or at least not ours), but they sent one right up, and it fulfilled our coffee needs! Overall, I would definitely stay here again after this experience.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was compact, but efficient, even including a bathtub and a shower combination. There wasn’t a lot of room to share the sink, even with as much as my husband and I love each other, but we made do! The toiletries were from Malin and Goetz, which is generally a good brand of hotel toiletries. I also like that it was nice and bright white in there! I think it made the space feel bigger, and certainly less cramped than it was.

The Fitness Center

I know this is not every traveler’s cup of tea, but having a nice, clean, spacious gym is a real treat for us! You’ll find all sorts of cardio and weight equipment, medicine balls, ropes, exercise balls, free weights, etc. There is loads of space to move, and there is even a nice view of a courtyard and greenery, with natural light coming in. Overall, it’s fantastic as hotel gyms go!

The Pool

Wow! This pool is one of the most beautiful. The turquoise water and yellow-and-white umbrellas make it feel very “La La Land.” The fact that it’s surrounded by palm trees makes it absolutely picture-perfect. The Tropicana Pool Bar is poolside, so you can have a beverage, snack, or meal delivered right to your chair. It was chilly the weekend we visited, but this pool area was so inviting, we decided to hang out here, fully clothed, just for the fun of it!

The Parking

We needed a car during our stay, and you might need one as well. Sure, you could pay for parking at $65 per night while you’re here. Or, if you’d prefer, you can go to the parking garage literally across the street for $30 per night. Unfortunately, we were bullied into using the valet for the first hour of our stay (we had just driven 5 hours from San Diego in Friday afternoon traffic; we were weary). When we asked where the self-parking was located, the valet told us there was no self-parking, so we gave in (again, weary). But before we left to go to dinner, we asked the gentleman at the front desk if there was any self-parking nearby, and he told us we could park at the parking garage across the street.

This was the one sour point of our trip. Long story short: We paid $90 for three nights of self-parking, instead of $195 for three nights of parking with the valet, but we were still charged $22 for one hour of valet parking. Learn from us!
