Christmas in Colonial Williamsburg

IMG_2391

It’s Faraway Friday! This week it’s all about Christmas in Williamsburg. Their decorations are up now in preparation for Sunday night’s Grand Illumination (the first Sunday in December), and on my recent trip down that way, I couldn’t help but marvel at the artistry and talent it takes to make all those decorations, and all from natural items like fruits and leaves! Here are a few of my favorites. I hope they’ll put you right in the Christmas spirit!

Featuring Flowers

The temperatures may be turning colder, but there are still splashes of floral color about. Here is your proof!

Featuring Fruits and Vegetables

It’s probably not a shock that fruits are common holiday decorations for early Americans, but vegetables? How many can you spot?

Featuring Feathers

Whether found on the ground or taken as a prize from the hunt, feathers were commonly used for decoration in early America. Take a look and perhaps be inspired to use feathers in your own Christmas decorating!
