What to Eat in the Galapagos

Updated June 24, 2020.

It’s What I Ate Wednesday, and this week I’m taking you back to the Galapagos Islands with me! What do they eat on such remote islands? Find out today!

Breakfast

Our hotels all included breakfast each day, and it was usually buffet style with homemade breads, fruits, coffee, yogurt, cereal, and the like. Did you know Ecuador is the #1 exporter of bananas in the world? And there are a ton of varieties!

Snacks

It’s very important to stay hydrated and fed throughout the day in the Galapagos! You have to stay fueled for all the incredible hiking, swimming, and fun! The empanadas pictured below were the best I’ve ever had!

  1. They knew you were from Tennessee with the fried food.

  2. What is in the green soup? Looks interesting!

    1. I don’t remember! It was a vegetable, but I don’t think it was a taste I recognized.

  3. I’ve read not to eat fresh unpeeled fruits and veggies in Ecuador because of their water not being purified??

    1. That is true. Unless you know it’s been washed in bottled or purified water, do not eat raw fruits or veggies, and do not get ice in your beverages. Most nice or reputable hotels and restaurants will be washing everything with bottled or purified water, but always ask if you’re not sure!
