10 Photos to Inspire Your Trip to Ireland

Updated August 14, 2020.

This Faraway Friday happens to fall on… St. Patrick’s Day! So here are 10 photos to inspire your wanderlust for the Emerald Isle!

10. Driving on the “Other Side”

Unless you live in the UK, Japan, Australia, or South Africa, there is a high chance you drive on the right. Driving on the left side of the road was a crazy experience that I’m glad I got to have! Just follow the cars in front of you and keep yourself next to the yellow line!

9. The Architecture

Ireland’s history is fascinating and long, and nothing really shows off a country’s history like its architecture. More than a thousand years’s worth of history collects all styles, materials, techniques, etc., that make a place more and more interesting with age. Check out this beautiful medieval door!

 8. Live Music

Ireland has a distinctive music style, and it’s important to the country’s culture. We found live music on the streets, in the pubs, and even in fine restaurants as well! It’s lively, it’s danceable, and it’s sometimes sad, but it will always make you feel something!

7. The Leprechaun Museum

This is one unique little museum! Down a little lane in Dublin you’ll find the National Leprechaun Museum, complete with rainbows, little people, and rainbows!

6. Green

It’s not called the Emerald Isle for nothing! It rains quite a bit (every day I was there for a week!), but that only makes the country greener and greener!

 5. Nature

And speaking of green, it’s just a naturally beautiful country. There are plenty of places to hike and explore all over. We found this creek and a small water fall just a few minutes from the road! It was late fall when we were there, so the remaining colorful leaves made for some beautiful walks!

4. Castles

Ireland is home to beautiful castles! We stumbled upon this one on our drive from Dublin to Galway, just waiting for us on the side of the road! The overcast skies made for an excellent ambience!

3. The Shepherd’s Pie

Yum! Everything pretty much comes with potatoes, but my favorite way to enjoy potatoes is on top of a hardy shepherd’s pie on a chilly, drizzly day! Even the veggies look Irish, don’t they?

2. Blarney Castle

I’ll be honest, I was most excited about kissing the Blarney Stone! The castle was fascinating, and on the long walk up to the Stone, we learned a lot about what’s “blarney” versus “baloney!” Did you know you have to bend over backwards to kiss the stone?

1. The Cliffs of Moher

We got there on an exceptionally overcast day, but it almost looked unreal anyway! The way the waves crash and the cliffs jut out just so, it’s a pretty magical sight, rain or shine.
