Travel Fear: Too Expensive

It’s Fearless Friday! Today we’re eradicating another travel fear: “travel is too expensive.” Well, it doesn’t have to be. Here’s why:

 1. No one else sets your budget.

You decide what you’re comfortable with and how much or how little you want to spend, and there are options for even the smallest budget. There’s Couch Surfing, Air BnB, flight alerts from Hipmunk and other discount airfare websites, and FREE tours and attractions in every major city in the world!

2. It’s all about the priorities.

If you want to travel, you’ll find the cash. If you don’t want to travel, don’t use the money excuse. Do you have money for meals out? Do you have money for new clothes every season? Do you have money for Starbucks? Do you have money for those extra things in your cart that aren’t on your grocery list? Do you have money for happy hour? Are you paying for interest on your credit card(s)? Do you have money for the latest gadgets as soon as they come out? That last one alone means you have money for a plane ticket anywhere in the world instead!

3. “But I have other people to support.”

OK, this one does make things more complicated… But not impossible! Find another couple or family to split gas for a road trip and a house or condo for accommodations. Kids fly free until they’re two! Traveling doesn’t have to mean going far. You can go to the next state or even just a couple of towns over and find something new. Travel is travel no matter where you are!

  1. Third point really makes a difference! Going as a couple you split by two but going with another couple makes such a drastic change when you do things like rent a car!

    1. So glad you agree! Do you have any other tips or points to add?

      1. I think you covered it all 🙂

  2. All of these are absolutely true! People ask em all the time how I can afford to travel so often, but it’s all about budgeting (and it starts with your daily life)! I spend 101 days in SE Asia, and only spend $5,051 dollars TOTAL. It’s not as expensive as people make it out to be! Cheers and keep traveling!
